Casino bonus terms in plain English: the three lines that decide everything

A bonus is a set of obligations attached to money in your account, not free credit. We do not confirm that any offer is available to players in New Zealand, and we publish no amounts, percentages or multipliers. Here is what to find in the rules before you accept anything.

01

Find the three numbers or walk away

Every wagering condition rests on three figures, and if any one of them is missing from the document you are reading, you cannot evaluate the offer. The first is the base the operator applies the multiplier to: the bonus credit alone, your own deposit alone, or both added together. The second is the multiplier itself. The third is the deadline, counted from a moment the rules should name precisely. Write all three down somewhere you will still have them in a fortnight. An offer you cannot summarise in one sentence is an offer you do not yet understand, and a support agent who cannot restate those three figures in writing is telling you something about how claims will go later.

02

Not every game counts the same

Casino terms routinely assign different weights to different game types, and some categories are excluded from wagering altogether. A separate trap appears in many rule sets as a maximum stake per round: exceed it and the operator may void the bonus regardless of how much you played. That clause matters because it converts a straightforward condition into a trap for anyone who raises stakes without rereading the page. Work out which games count in full, which count partially and which do not count at all before you build any plan around the offer.

03

Your deposit stops being fully yours

While a wagering requirement is live, the balance on screen is usually a mixture of your money and the operator's credit, and the rules govern what happens when you try to take some out. Some conditions freeze withdrawals until the requirement is met. Others delete the bonus portion the moment you request a payout. Others reduce what you receive. Because those outcomes differ so much between operators and even between promotions from the same brand, read the withdrawal interaction clause word for word. A written answer from support is worth more than any banner, so ask before you accept rather than after a request is refused.

04

Rewards that cost more than they give

Ask yourself two uncomfortable questions. Would you still be comfortable spending this much time and money if the bonus did not exist? Does accepting it push you to deposit more than you had planned? If the honest answer to either is yes, the offer is working against you. In New Zealand the balance is likely to be shown in New Zealand dollars (NZD), so judge the figures against your own household budget rather than against how the number looks on the page. Declining a promotion is a normal decision, not a sign that you misunderstood it.
